Community update: Merriwa Park Story Spaces construction

Construction of the Merriwa Park Story Spaces has had a small pause after the recent unexpected flooding through Merriwa Park. While the timing was not ideal, the good news is that the completed footings and early construction have held up well. The project has quite literally weathered the swim.

The team is now simply waiting for the sodden ground to dry out properly before moving back onto site. This is important because pushing ahead too early could damage the existing grass and surrounding parkland. Taking a little extra care now means we can protect the park while still keeping the project moving in the right direction.

All is definitely not lost. The timber is ready, the construction team is ready, and as soon as the ground is firm enough, work will continue.

In a strange way, the recent flooding has reminded us just how connected this site is to water, memory and community life. The new Story Spaces will help carry those memories forward, giving people a place to pause, reflect and reconnect with the stories that have shaped Merriwa Park over time.
