We are reviewing our Waste Management Policy.
As the Rural City of Wangaratta continues to expand both in urban and rural areas, waste and recycling volumes are increasing. Higher demand for waste services, growing pressure on street and household bins, and the need to reduce landfill reliance make it clear: our community and Council must work together to embrace a more sustainable, clear, and responsive Waste Management Policy.
The updated policy reflects changes introduced since the previous Waste Management Policy, most notably the Victorian Government’s rollout of standardised household waste and recycling services across the state. For Council, this has included the introduction of a kerbside glass collection service.
This policy review is an opportunity to ensure that our waste management approach reflects evolving community needs, changing environmental standards, and operational realities. To support a sustainable future, Council must continue responding to evolving state policies and regulations in waste management.
