Have Your Say on Boat Ramp Improvements

We’ve received funding from the Victorian Fisheries Authority to develop draft plans for two local boat ramp sites at Templeton Street and Frank Garth Reserve.

These plans aim to improve safety, accessibility and overall functionality of boating facilities, responding to strong community demand for better access to local waterways, identified as a priority in the recreation strategy.

Importantly, this stage of the project is focused on design only, helping guide future funding and construction opportunities. Community input will play a key role in shaping how these facilities look and function.

Residents, river users, anglers and visitors are encouraged to share their ideas, particularly around:

  • Improving access and usability
  • Safety considerations
  • Accessibility and inclusive features
  • Enhancing the overall experience for all users

The designs aim to create welcoming, multi-use spaces that balance the needs of boat users with those of the wider community.

Consultation will run through May, with draft concept designs available for public viewing before being finalised.

By getting involved, the community can help ensure these projects deliver practical, well-designed spaces that reflect local needs and support recreation for years to come.

The community can influence:

  • Layout and functionality of proposed facilities
  • Accessibility and inclusivity features
  • Safety considerations and user experience
  • Identification of local issues, opportunities or constraints

The community cannot influence:

  • The number of sites funded under this project/ the sites chosen
  • Compliance with safety, environmental and accessibility standards
  • Land ownership or statutory approval requirements
  • The timing or certainty of future construction funding

Templeton Street options:

Templeton Street Boat Ramp Option 1:

  • Modification of the existing ramp.
  • Width consistent with Better Boating Victoria Guidelines
  • Grade not modified
Pour a new slab over the old slab, increasing the width and providing a consistent new finish

Templeton St Option 2:

  • Modification of the existing ramp, focussing on increasing the width, but maintaining the current finish.
  • Width consistent with Better Boating Victoria Guidelines
  • Grade not modified

Frank Garth Reserve options:

Frank Garth Reserve West-East Alignment:

  • A concept showing a newly constructed ramp.
  • Width (4.5m), Grade (1:8) consistent with Better Boating Victoria Guidelines
  • Plan shows significant impact on tracks and vegetation in the reserve

Frank Garth Reserve North-South Alignment:
  • A concept showing a newly constructed ramp.
  • Width (4.5m), Grade (1:8) consistent with Better Boating Victoria Guidelines
  • Plan shows minor impact on tracks, but greater impact on vegetation and river bank in the reserve

Parfitt Road Slip Lane

Any works in Frank Garth require upgrade to access off Parfitt Road

  • Provide a slip lane relocating some existing assets and drainage to achieve this
  • Provide a longer cross over at 1:10 over the levee bank to provide safe access and improved visibility for boats on trailers.
