The updated Domestic Animal Management Plan was endorsed by Council at the October 2025 Council Meeting.
Why is this project important?
This plan sets out the procedures for managing dogs and cats in the municipality and helps guide how we invest our time and resources to keep our community safe. It also sets out the responsibilities of pet owners including animal registration, microchipping and making sure their animal is properly contained.
Why are we doing this?
Our Domestic Animal Management Plan sets out the procedures for managing dogs and cats which will then determine how we invest our time and resources. The plan will outline how we will support domestic animal management including the safety and wellbeing of the wider community.
The draft DAMP details Council’s commitment to:
Programs and strategies that will assist Council to meet its animal management responsibilities.
Education and events on responsible pet ownership, community safety and awareness.
Maximising the number of cats and dogs registered within the municipality
Complying with the relevant provisions of the Domestic Animals Act 1994.
