From 1 July 2024, all Victorian councils will need to have community sport gender equitable access and use policies in place to be considered eligible to receive sport and recreation infrastructure funding. These policies will ensure that women and girls can fully participate in and enjoy the benefits of community sport, with fair opportunity and access to their local facilities. You can read more about the research behind this at Change Our Game

Over the past 18 months, the Rural City of Wangaratta’s Community and Recreation team have been involved in education, research and consultation to develop a Draft Sport Facility Booking Policy, a Draft Community Sport Fair Access Policy, and an Action Plan which outlines how we will work with the community to ensure our sporting organisations are safe, welcoming and inclusive environments.

At the Council meeting held on Tuesday 27 February, the draft documents were endorsed for public exhibition. The survey below provides an opportunity for our community to share their ideas and provide input into the draft policies and actions. Complete the survey by 28 March to help guide Community Sport Fair Access initiatives within our municipality.

Drop in sessions to discuss the policies and action plan will be held on:

Monday 4 March 4.30pm-5.30pm, HP Barr Community Centre, Schilling Dr Wangaratta

Wednesday 13 March 4.30pm-5.30pm, HP Barr Community Centre, Schilling Dr Wangaratta

These are not formal meetings, they are an opportunity for you to chat to a Council Officer with any questions or input you have.

Additional times, including meetings with club committees, can be arranged by contacting the team at recreation@wangaratta.vic.gov.au
