We're planning to construct a separate area for small dogs at Mitchell Avenue Reserve off-leash area, and we want your feedback on the concept plan.

When Council developed its Recreation Strategy (2024–34) we heard that community wanted safe, accessible and high‑quality recreation spaces. We've also heard that residents support a small dogs park, and have been awarded grant funding through the Victorian Government's New and Upgraded Dog Parks program.

We've already been engaging with the community and dog owners to better understand what features were important, and what improvements could be made. A copy of the engagement report is available here.

Since then, we've developed a draft concept plan featuring:

  • separate areas for small and large dogs,
  • agility equipment,
  • upgraded fencing,
  • accessible gates,
  • seating, and
  • water fountains.

We'd like to know if we got it right.

Thank you to everyone who left feedback over both stages of project engagement.

Most recently we heard that the plan was welcome, but that the community would be keen to see the following updates:

    • Separate sections for small and large dogs
    • Natural logs, tunnels, mounds
    • Maintain grass to prevent dust or mud
    • Accessible water stations
    • Bin stations
    • More seating under shade
    • Multiple entry/exit points

We have made some minor design changes to our final design to incorporate ‘what we heard’ including more seating, canine drinking fountain, and low impact equipment to support exercise and play. If there is funding available we will look to incorporate shade structures.

You can download the report under documents in the sidebar.
